We were planning to go to Williamsburg, VA this coming weekend. We live about 5 hours away. We were planning to arrive late Friday, spend Saturday and part of Sunday enjoying the colonial village, and then drive home late Sunday. This is what the Mercurial Maiden said she wanted to do in celebration of last year’s straight-A report card. It was going to be a bit of a stretch, financially, but we were all set to do it.
Then the Wizard’s car broke down. And the cost of getting it towed and repaired was just enough to change our plans for the weekend from tricky to impossible.
We’ll still take the trip, of course, but now we’ll have to postpone it until the fall, probably sometime in early-to-mid October. Hey, the weather will probably be a lot more pleasant then, anyway!
Meanwhile, we’re looking for some fun alternatives for this weekend. Possibilities so far include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:
–A day trip to Washington, DC, perhaps to the Smithsonian. Or perhaps to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing; we haven’t been there before.
–A day trip to Baltimore, probably to re-visit Geppi’s Entertainment Museum. (The Samurai was too ill to enjoy it much, the last time we went.)
–Taking in a movie or two at one of the local theaters.
–Buying a couple of new DVDs, popping some corn, and watching movies at home.
Anyone have any other good ideas? I want us to have some genuine, bona-fide fun, and I am open to suggestions!
